The project “Nationwide Community – Networking for Transcultural Empowerment of FGM/C Survivors”, funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ), supports affected and at-risk women and girls who wait months for psychological help. Through transcultural art workshops in areas such as music, painting, dance and mindfulness, low-threshold methods for psychological relief are provided.
Community organizers from 12 federal states lead these workshops in collaboration with various experts and actively engage against FGM/C. In addition to creative processing of trauma, awareness-raising work is also carried out to sharpen awareness of the issue and empower survivors.
The project concluded on December 10, 2024, International Human Rights Day, with a successful closing conference. Experts, community organizers and participants from across Germany came together to share their experiences, network and present the artistic works created during the project. The event underscored the importance of community, artistic expression and low-threshold support for coping with the psychological consequences of FGM/C
